How Folk Music Was Saved by Short Term Insurance

Being an independent musician is a tough but rewarding business. If the majority of your revenue is made from touring and playing small shows across the country, you depend on being able to make those shows on time.
Catherine Hastings is the lead singer of an independent folk rock music group. Their station wagon may be a bit outdated, but any vehicle that can carry the group’s wide range of musical instruments from place to place is a good enough vehicle for them.

Over the years, the group has performed over two hundred shows across Europe. They’ve been through a number of different vehicles (and even public transportation) to keep on with their tours, but they hadn’t considered the importance of buying specialized insurance until Samuel Hastings, Catherine’s brother, had a run in with the law.

As they do travel long roads across the continent, they find the need to designate driving shifts. Local authorities in Italy pulled the band over after a collision and found out that Samuel wasn’t able to drive the car without Catherine being present and accounted for (she was on sick leave from the band). They received a hefty fine and had their vehicle impounded at a local police station.

After returning home to the UK, Catherine researched more information about a short term insurance policy from here she’d heard about on TV weeks before. The policy offered comprehensive, EU-wide coverage, allowing another driver to drive the car for up to 28 days. As Catherine was still recovering from her surgery at time, the band made the decision to pool together their money to re-insure the old station wagon, and Samuel was back on the road with the band.

With over 7 shows to play in the following month, Samuel and the rest of the band relied on the insurance to provide backup coverage in case of an accident or breakdown during their travels on the continent.
Luckily, the band arrived just in time for their next show in Italy, and their prized station wagon was insured for travel across the entire continent. Had they taken the risk and continued to travel across the continent uninsured, the court fees from a major collision could have cost them the band.

Samuel went on to tell the story jokingly at several of his shows. The band wrote about their experience in a mock folk song that was included on one of their newest albums.

Short term insurance, which you can buy from www.insuranceshortterm.co.uk is important for individuals looking to let a family member borrow their car, as well as people who are looking to insure a car for a short period of time. Many plans are extremely affordable and offer complete coverage across the UK and EU.
